Did you see our post regarding Miguel’s Jr. Homestyle Mexican Food Restaurant? We recently discovered it and decidedly liked it after one meal — Now after a few more (Wet Bean & Cheese Burrito and Taco Salad with Shredded Chicken), it’s serious. We’re in heavy like.
As previously noted we REALLY like Miguel’s Jr.’s Beans and now appreciate their massive Burritos and homestyle flavor of their Shredded Chicken — All is well prepared and well priced.
Miguel’s Jr. Homestyle Mexican Food — It’s on 17th Street, near Newport Boulevard in Costa Mesa. A Taco Bell once occupied the space. It’s Miguel’s Jr.’s first fast-food-type restaurant in Orange County, and after a quick bite I’m already glad it’s here and want to taste more.
One of Miguel’s Jr.’s listed core values is to ‘Deliver a positive experience that exceeds expectations’ — I didn’t know that walking in, but now see it’s true. Everyone seemed genuinely friendly, and the Beans on the pictured Tostada with Shredded Chicken were extra good. I’ll need a Bean & Cheese Burrito there real soon. Miguel’s Jr.’s prices aren’t bad either.
I’ve discovered the largest Taco in Costa Mesa and possibly all of Orange County. It’s at Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant & Bar, a family owned place that’s been open for more than 35 years in Costa Mesa. Although I’d heard many great things about the restaurant, the Tacos weren’t specifically mentioned. The buzz seemed mostly about the Mexican Pizzas, gigantic Burritos and stiff Margaritas.
In a visit this year with friends, we happily confirmed the quality of the Margaritas, and I had my first Mi Casa Taco. It was huge. Once I was able to pick it up, I didn’t put it down. It was that good, plus I didn’t think I’d successfully be able to pick it up again, so I just kept eating. Now I have Chicken Taco tunnel vision – And each visit it’s been stuffed with superior meat, fresh lettuce and what seems like a whole brick of grated cheese on top. Yum! It’s consistently enjoyable and filling. My friend says the Beef Taco is just as delicious.

I wrote a lengthy review about El Matador for Orange County Mexican Restaurants (OCMEXFOOD Blog). Christian Z’s site has a lot more food pictures. Check them out. I just ate there again and had the Chorizo Con Huevos y Papas with a side of Tortillas and good Cadillac Margarita. I liked it all.
I’ll tell a semi-funny story about Chorizo when I prepare a Soy Chorizo post. I don’t wanna think about the ingredients now. Ciao. 🙂

El Toro Bravo Tortilleria is hidden to those who don’t know it’s there, but every time I’ve been by there’s been a line. I wrote a review for Christian Z’s blog OCMexFood. Check it out. The links to the story and pictures are below.
