June’s National Food Holidays: Candy, Papaya, Iced Tea & More.

June 1st, 2012 1 comment

It seems my birthday falls on National Gingerbread Day and almost half the year is over.  I jokingly tell people it’s almost Christmas during January, as time flies by, thus it’s Christmas in June, which makes Gingerbread more appropriate — Hope photo doesn’t suggest implications.

Note: Additional June Food Holiday INFO is here, here and here — A Merry Month to you.

Disco Party To Reminisce With Old Friends & New Kids: 45 Doesn’t Suck!

May 29th, 2012 2 comments

The ‘Dines’ Disco Den it was called — A family Disco Party to celebrate the 45th Birthday of a 20+ year old friend.  1970’s attire was requested of all and the food was caringly homemade.

How can you not have fun with Disco music playing throughout?  I can’t not dance.

Brian (above) is congratulated by Nora, his wife, the birthday girl and my groovy friend.

The Pasta dishes were inspired by their Spaghettini favorites and homemade by Brian.

I knew the Sauce was going to taste good when I saw it — Congratulations indeed.

A decorative Cheese Ball made by a fellow party-goer foodie fit in well with skillful flavor.

Kid’s tables on the backyard lawn — All were having fun.

Prize bowls filled with Zotz, Necco Wafers, Etch A Sketch, Whoopee Cushions, Trophies, etc.

Hoola Hoop Contests for kids (and adults) — It wasn’t boring.

Multi-talented Jacob announced games, handed out awards, disco’d down and hoola-hoop’d.

Definitely an entertaining way for all to spend a birthday, no matter what age — Why not?

Keeping 1970’s music, toys, candy and games alive, but it was hard to find clothes.

A special thanks to The Bee Gee’s, Donna Summer and Barry White (above)?!

Showering Babies On Cinco De Mayo: Cadillac Milk On The Rocks?

May 5th, 2012 No comments

A bib for the baby?  Here you go — Happy Cinco De Mayo!  It’s now on to La Espiga De Oro.

And we might want a big, fat, wet Burrito don’t you know.

Or we’ll make Nibbles of Tidbits’ Chipotle Barbacoa Beef Copycat Recipe?!

Or opt for Chinese take-out to avoid crowds and labor — TBD after the Cadillac.

Much to possibly do — Salud to a new Superman too!  Milk is good food.

Pinterest Interest Pinnacle: The Superbowl Of Appetizer Platter Ideas.

After seeing traffic resulting from Nibbles of Tidbits / I Need Text Company pins, especially from this post, I joined Pinterest.  In honor of our most popular pin, oddly a fake appetizer platter, we present the Super Platter (above), which looks to be real.  Pin this.  Photo credit.

The Real Meaning Of WTF. Really!

Where’s the FOOD?  It’s here.  And you thought it meant something else…

Pardon The Cupcake That Landed On Top Of Our Tidbits.

April 12th, 2012 No comments

In some views there’s a (temporary) gap of space at the top of this blog.  We know and want it fixed soon too.  All else is well here otherwise, except the Wicked Witch of the East, though looks fairly simple to recreate with fondant and an upside-down Chocolate Cupcake.  Please endure the calamity and look beyond the illustrative Cupcakes or make some.

04/13/12 Update: The display issue appears fixed. Let’s hope it doesn’t revert back (again).

It’s Called The 100 X 100 On The Secret In-N-Out Burger Menu.

April 11th, 2012 No comments

Though the MENU is limited at In-N-Out Burger, their secret (up to you with what’s on hand), and Not-So-Secret MENU can seem unlimited.  Forget the Double Double, opt for a 100 X 100.  Can you imagine how long it would take in the drive-thru, which usually takes long enough?!

Do You Remember Pup ‘N’ Taco? Hopefully They Never Served This.

April 9th, 2012 No comments

Bite the one you love said their advertisement — It’s not this Pup ‘N’ Taco.  I want to kiss its face, not eat it.  The real Pup ‘N’ Taco sold Hot Dogs, Tacos, Pastrami Sandwiches and more, and no longer exists.  Ninety-nine stores were bought by Taco Bell ending the chain in 1984.

04/16/12 Update:  Just so you know, the pictured is not served by Taco Dawg either. 😉

Sounds Like Baby Ruth’s Mama Got Around: The Birth Of A Candy Bar.

April 2nd, 2012 2 comments

I remember this story as a kid — Not sure that’s appropriate as I stumble upon and read it now, but I guess it was harmless.  No Baby Ruth’s.  My three favorites would be Butterfinger, PayDay and Bit-O-Honey.  What story do they tell?  And which three would you choose?

Best Not Ask Me To Bring Deviled Eggs To Your Party.

March 21st, 2012 3 comments

What’s the trick for consistent easy shell removal from a hard boiled Egg?  I’ve read and tried many different processes, but (obviously) haven’t found one that consistently works.

Sometimes it’s really bad and sadly not exaggerated above, but…

They still taste good with the perfect blend of Mayo, Mustard, Vinegar and S & P.  I’ll have to research all again and officially test and document the processes — Only venting about it now.  Who is the authority on this?  I want easy shell removal every time.  Is it too much to ask?

Achtung Baby: Snow Diets Might Not Be So Good For You.

In contrast to the preceding, it’s snowing in a lot of places.  Have you ever caught snow in your mouth?  Are you sure it was snow?  Haphazard snow diets aren’t recommended.

What Jelly Belly Flavor Would You Want Created?

March 15th, 2012 No comments

Why not any of these flavors?  Dog Food could be part of Bertie Bott’s — Great for practical jokes (my favorite) or a Jelly Belly Fear Factor Game.  I’ll host, but won’t play.  Would you?

Get Your Eyes Off These Carrots: Ingredients For The Best Carrot Soup.

March 8th, 2012 No comments

Hhhmmmm — Not sure where to start regarding the above, so instead report about the Carrot Soup I made and will post the recipe when prepared again and photographed.  It was a superb combination of Roasted Carrots, Chicken Stock, Caramelized Onions, Roasted Garlic and Fresh Thyme, puréed.  It was beautiful, complex and flavorsome.  The pictured Carrots weren’t used for my Soup, somehow it wouldn’t seem right!?  Should they put on pants?
