Il Garage Near The Garden At Park Avenue In Stanton Off Beach.

April 7th, 2014 No comments

Il Garage (Park Avenue) 051

It’s Il Garage (il garage ristorante) and it’s set back within/behind Park Avenue Restaurant in Stanton off Beach Blvd. — It’s a separate dining spot on the beautiful grounds of Park Avenue.

Il Garage (Park Avenue) 001

We ate at Park Avenue Restaurant — It’s reported here.  This day we were in the garage. 😉

Il Garage (Park Avenue) 011

I’m not sure if it really once was a multi-car garage, but it looks like it, tractor and all.

Il Garage (Park Avenue) 012

The view of Park Avenue’s famous Garden from our seat couldn’t be beat.

Il Garage (Park Avenue) 044

The Il Garage Ristorante menu changes daily and is dependent on their gardens.

Il Garage (Park Avenue) 047

Our favorites were the Cavatappi Primavera (below), utilizing many vegetables from the PAG.

Il Garage (Park Avenue) 049

And the Orange Panna Cotta — Truly the best Panna Cotta we’ve had in our lives (below).

Il Garage Panna Cotta

It had so much flavor — Cheers to that (and our Two Year Anniversary).

Il Garage (Park Avenue) 038

Enter the PAG — Park Avenue Garden through here (below).

Il Garage (Park Avenue) 027

The PAG is a dream garden, with raised beds and trees growing everything you’d want to eat.

Il Garage (Park Avenue) 018

I think I’d want to live here.

Il Garage (Park Avenue) 024

You’re free to roam the gardens, no matter where you dine.

Il Garage (Park Avenue) 030

My husband, Matt is looking through the weather protectant, plastic drop, near the tractor.

Il Garage (Park Avenue) 034

Nice to receive a $100 Gift Card as a Wedding Gift that can be used at either restaurant.

Il Garage (Park Avenue) 057

It’s not in the best neighborhood, but once inside you forget about it — A good thing.

Il Garage

We plan to go back to both for Dining & Cocktails, as suggested.

Mariscos Clemente Restaurant For Mexican Style Seafood In Fullerton.

April 4th, 2014 No comments

Mariscos, Pressure Cooker 007

Discovering Fullerton FOOD and most recently Mariscos Clemente Restaurant.

Mariscos Clemente

It’s a fine, local find that serves authentic Mexican Style Seafood — Muy Bueno!

Mariscos, Pressure Cooker 010

Pictured from top down (a perfect sampling) — The Fried Fish (Tilapia w/ Tortillas, Rice & Salad), a Ceviche Tostada with Avocado and a Small Shrimp Cocktail, with Chips and Salsa.

Mariscosr 003

It’s a relatively small place with a small parking lot off Orangethorpe and Gilbert.

Mariscos Fried Fish

Many are inside and have been going there for years — We’ll need to catch up.

Mariscos Clemente Chips

Mariscos Clemente’s Shrimp Cocktail is on the sweet side, if you like that.  We’re ready for their other Ceviche Tostadas and more Pescado Frito, etc — Yelp for more photos and information.

The Original Umami Burger: What’s Not To Like About Its Definition?

March 28th, 2014 No comments

Umami 002

Umami:  A taste sensation that is meaty or savory and is produced by several amino acids and nucleotides (as glutamate and aspartate) — It’s the definition of Umami.  Understand now?

Umami 007

How about this… Umami is a savory taste, one of the five basic tastes (together with sweet, sour, bitter and salty).  A loanword from the Japanese, Umami can be translated as “pleasant savory taste” — It’s basically a description, NOT specific ingredients.  I didn’t know all this.

Umami 001

Pictured is the Original Umami Burger from the Umami Restaurant Group’s Umami Burger.

Umami 006

And Beer Battered Onion Rings from Umami Burger’s Sides Menu.  They were good, but I prefer thinner Onions.  Theirs are thick with too much Onion — Not sure if they are always like that?!

Umami 003

As for the famous Original Umami Burger, I regret to inform that we thought it was just okay.  I’d heard great things about it over the past couple years, but we didn’t find it mind blowingly different.  It’s quite rich actually.  We like its ingredients… Shiitake Mushrooms, Caramelized Onions, Roasted Tomato, a Parmesan Crisp and Umami Ketchup, but idk — It was pleasantly savory, but other Burgers have been even more pleasantly savory, if allowed.

Umami 009

It’s not inexpensive, but had to try it and you may still want to too.  I’d like to try Umami Burger’s Ahi Tuna Burger.  It looks and sounds impressive, like many of Umami Burger’s other Burgers.

Having Our Cake & Eating It Too: Quick Wedding Recommendations.

March 12th, 2014 No comments

shellyandmatt-138

We’re still looking back fondly while settling in.  Did you see our Wedding Cake?  It was perfect!  Not only did it look cool, but it tasted great too.  We highly recommend Creative Cakes and a few other superb wedding vendors noted and linked herein.  Check them out.

shellyandmatt-135

These photos and hundreds of other amazing ones were taken by Tremble Media.  We love them all and the professional Wedding Video they shot and edited for us.  They captured it all.

shellyandmatt-174

The Turnip Rose Promenade & Gardens was the BEST venue for us and people are still talking about the FOOD.  We appreciate so much about them — Quality, service, beauty, etc.

shellyandmatt-191

And Photo Booth On Wheels did a great job too — Nice people run it.

shellyandmatt-264

And mustn’t forget the Most Fabulous DJ around — Andy Nation.  Wow!  He’s an awesome, organized, professional person to work with and did an excellent job at our wedding.

shellyandmatt-265

Everything was lovely, seamless, tasty, entertaining and pleasantly memorable THANKS to all.

shellyandmatts-12

We’d DO it all again the same way.  Thank you!

The Twisted Vine: Fine To Dine & A Really Good Time With Wine.

March 5th, 2014 No comments

Twisted Vine 003

The Twisted Vine is a Wine Bar & Shop in Fullerton, but don’t forget the food.

Twisted Vine 002

These photos certainly don’t do it justice.  It’s nicely dark inside.  I met a group of friends there for the first time for Wine.  We shared everything pictured here, but didn’t take these photos until I went back a couple weeks later and had the exact same things.  All was that good!

Twisted Vine 008

I especially love the Chorizo Crostini (above) and I’m ready to have it a third time.

Twisted Vine 011

Also pictured is the Baked Brie in a Bread Bowl, Olives and Stuffed French Toast Empanadas.

Wahoo’s Fish Taco: Keep An Eye Out For This Next Restaurant Week.

March 2nd, 2014 No comments

Wahoos 010

Orange County Restaurant Week is over for now, but it’ll be back — I’m not sure when, but you can check here.  Next time, we’ll opt for the Wahoo’s Fish Taco deal more than once.

Wahoos 001

For $20 it included… (2) Drinks (Beer and/or Wine), an Appetizer (Baja Rolls) to share, (2) Entrees (Two Tacos and/or Two Enchiladas), and Dessert (Churro Chips) to share.

Wahoos 008

It was the best deal that week — Though it has past, OC Restaurant Week will be back again.

Wahoos 011

Until then, OC Cocktail Week starts TODAY — Here’s a link to more information about it.

Wahoo's 12

Though full from our Wahoo’s meal, we couldn’t stop eating the Churro Chips, which are similar to those in photo above — We were so busy inhaling them, I forgot to take a photo.

Matador Cantina: Three-Course Dinner For OC Restaurant Week.

February 26th, 2014 No comments

Matador Cantina 011

For Orange County Restaurant Week, we chose Matador Cantina in Fullerton — Mostly because we’re based here now and it’s the best deal offered by 3 participating restaurants nearby.

Matador Cantina 024

There’s ample parking and an entrance in the back — It’s dark, but don’t be intimidated.

Matador Cantina 005

Enlarge Menu (above) for a better view — We had one of each, pictured herein.

Matador Cantina 012

A Ceviche Tostada (above) and/or Banh Mi Tostada (below) were offered for the First Course.

Matador Cantina 008

Second Course included Grilled Fish Tacos

Matador Cantina 015

…and/or Chicken Mole Enchiladas.

Matador Cantina 017

I especially liked the Cilantro Lime Rice served with the meals.

Matador Cantina 021

All was fantastic and I see why Matador Cantina has been voted Orange County’s Best Mexican Restaurant by some.  Third of this Three-Course Dinner for $20 includes a Chipotle Apple Empanada (above) and/or Cro-Churros (below).  We couldn’t taste the Chipotle as much as we wanted to, but all was good and a great pick for OC Restaurant Week.

Matador Cantina 020

The X O (above) goes out to my new husband and dining partner for life, Matt (below).  Hi. 🙂

Matador Cantina 003

After this week passes, Matador Cantina will continue to offer Weekly Specials.

Orange County Restaurant Week Is Coming Right Up.

OC Restaurant Week 3

See Orange County Restaurant Week’s List of Participating Restaurants — It’s HERE, with respective menus and price listings.  We’ll be dining in Historic Downtown Fullerton this year, as it’s near where we just moved and still part of Orange County.  Matador Cantina, The Cellar and/or Hopscotch shall be our choice for lunch and/or dinner(s) next week.

Creative Cakes OC: Custom Wedding Cake With Turnip Rose Package.

January 27th, 2014 No comments

Wedding Cake

Nice package indeed — We LOVED our Wedding Cake by Creative Cakes in Orange.  It came with the Wedding Package offered by The Turnip Rose Promenade & Gardens in Costa Mesa.  Our experience with both was superb!  We called it (above) our Graffiti Cake, since it was piped with amusing words and sayings related to us.  It looked cool and unique and tasted amazing.  As a bonus (also part of The Turnip Rose Package) — Instead of freezing the top layer of the Cake to eat it on our one-year anniversary, a tradition, Creative Cakes will bake us a fresh Cake to enjoy in its place.  We’ll just call around that time to tell ’em what we want.

Fig & Olive Restaurant Opens At Fashion Island In Newport Beach.

January 5th, 2014 No comments

Fig & Olive 088

At the Fig & Olive Restaurant in Newport Beach — I’ve finally arrived.

Fig & Olive 011

I have wanted to eat there for some time and now don’t need to travel far.

Fig & Olive 086

It’s in Newport Beach at Fashion Island — I believe it occupies Coco’s former location.

Fig & Olive 083

Nibbles of Tidbits was fortunately invited to its Grand Opening Party.

Fig & Olive 027

All was grander than expected — Its size, style, crowd and continuous appetizers.

Fig & Olive 040

As shown throughout, we tried a fair sampling of many.

Fig & Olive 018

Indoor/outdoor patio with fireplace (above) before it filled with people.

Fig & Olive 050

I don’t recall all we ate, but pictured above is the Zucchini Carpaccio — See MENU.

Fig & Olive 020

The hallway leading to the restrooms is filled with fresh Herbs, candles, vases and books.

Fig & Olive 032

The Grand Opening Party was complete with models on platforms throughout.

Fig & Olive 069

We were well positioned by the kitchen to receive the first right of refusal on appetizers.

Fig & Olive 045

None were refused, all were well liked and some loved.

Fig & Olive 053

The Truffle Mushroom Croquette (above) was a favorite of the evening.

Fig & Olive 056

Crostinis are popular at the Fig & Olive Restaurant.

Fig & Olive 079

I especially liked the Goat Cheese, Caramelized Onion and Chive Crostini.

Fig & Olive 066

The large space got crowded, which made it harder to jockey for a good food position.

Fig & Olive 082

We ultimately tried all pictured herein — For their complete MENU, see here.

Fig & Olive 077

We’d like to go back for more Crostinis & Crudo to enjoy at our leisure

Fig & Olive 064

Lunch starts in Newport Beach on January 6th and Brunch on January 11th, 2014.

Fig & Olive 024

The Fig & Olive Restaurant is in several spots in New York, in Los Angeles and now nearby.

Fig & Olive 062

Nice cars adorned the entry leading to a red carpet — I was underdressed, but treated well.

Fig & Olive 008

Fig & Olive Ingredients and Design — It’s about passion for the best Olive Oils, flavors and cuisine from the Riviera and Coastal Regions of the South of France, Italy & Spain and their elegant, warm design with limestone stucco walls, terra-cotta ceiling, green Rosemary and Olive trees exude the essence of the Mediterranean (they say).  I like it!

Two Saucy Broads In Fullerton: A Yelp (Meatball) Sandwich Pick.

November 18th, 2013 No comments

Fullerton Food 005

Though you can’t see the Meatballs in this photo (above), it’s a Meatball Sandwich from Two Saucy Broads in Fullerton.  They’re reported to make some of the best Meatballs around, says Yelp.  Since I’m in the process of moving to Fullerton and was nearby, I gave them/it a try.

Fullerton Food 002

The Sandwich is called Mom’s Meatball Parmesan — It’s different than the average Meatball Sandwich in that it’s baked in Pizza Dough, similar to a Calzone, but they don’t call it that.

Fullerton Food 008

Also pictured are two Pepperoni Pinwheels with a side of Marinara Sauce.

Fullerton Food 014

Both were very good and I love the name… Two Saucy Broads (one is pictured below).  Though the original focus was on the Meatball, it’s the Sauce and Dough that I liked best.

Fullerton Food 013

Once settled in, I’ll go there again, once they’re settled in their new, larger location too — They plan to move from Commonwealth to Hyland in Fullerton by the end of the year.  I’ll be there.

SeaLegs Wine Bar: Best Truffle Mac & Cheese Near The Pacific.

October 8th, 2013 No comments

Best Truffle Mac & Cheese

SeaLegs Wine Bar — It’s my new favorite restaurant (and Wine Bar, especially on a Wednesday when all Wine is 1/2 off).  Everything I’ve had there has been amazing.

Sealegs 008

LOVE its smart, chic, cool and comfortable style — Parts feel like an east coast vacation spot.

Sealegs 010

As noted, we think they have the BEST Truffle Mac & Cheese around (top photo) — Huntington Beach is where it’s at.  I’m told it’s made with White Cheddar, Mozzarella and Blue Cheese.

Sealegs 001

See SeaLegs Wine Bar’s Menu by the seashore, Pacific in this instance — I give no resistance.

Sealegs 012

Also on the menu, pictured herein are the Bleu Sliders and Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus.

Sealegs 003

I’ve yet to try most of their food, but want to, really, really bad.

Sealegs 009

Instead I’ve toasted there with ole high school chums on Wednesdays.

Sealegs 011

Cheers to SeaLegs Wine Bar (and its food) today with memories of yesterday.

Sealegs 027

Happy Hour prices ($5 Wine & Plates) apply ‘At The Bar’ only, M-F’s from 3-6p.m.

Sealegs 028

Will climb for Wine wit me sea legs.

La Palma Chicken Pie Shop Restaurant And Bakery In Anaheim.

September 9th, 2013 No comments

Chicken Pot Pie 019

The La Palma Chicken Pie Shop Restaurant and Bakery has been in existence longer than I’ve been alive — Yelp reviews will tell you more.  I’m new to this old establishment.

Chicken Pot Pie 032

I love the prices — They’re old school, like the waitresses who may be original too.

Chicken Pot Pie 001

I’m told (and have read) that the Chicken Pie is the best item to order, so it’s what we had.

Chicken Pot Pie 009

With Dinner, the Chicken Pie comes with Soup and Salad, a Roll and Dessert.

Chicken Pot Pie 012

I got the Ranch Dressing, which isn’t good (tangy) and I’ve since read their Roquefort is best.

Chicken Pot Pie 014

Dinner also comes with a choice of Potato — We got the Mashed Potatoes.  Gravy covers it all.

Chicken Pot Pie 017

I like smothered Gravy — The Crust was still crunchy and has a good flavor and texture.

Chicken Pot Pie 020

It is loaded with big pieces of real Chicken, dark and white — You can order it with all White Meat too.  I may do that next time, just to be on the safe side.  No Peas or Carrots are inside.

Chicken Pot Pie 023

Peach Pie for me and Matt had the Chocolate Pudding (not pictured).

Chicken Pot Pie 004

The interior is old too and filled with decorative Chickens and long-standing booths.

Chicken Pot Pie 003

Is that a flower pot on Matt’s head and a Chicken on his shoulder whispering in his ear?

Chicken Pot Pie 008

Come back, says the Chicken.

Chicken Pot Pie 028

It’s also a Bakery, as identified — We were too stuffed to try anything.  Next time.

Chicken Pot Pie 034

The Baked Chicken Pie Lunch ($5.00) and Dinner ($6.75) are cheap, satisfying meals.

Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant At Knott’s Berry Farm.

September 5th, 2013 No comments

Knott's Chicken 023

If I’ve ever had Mrs. Knott’s Fried Chicken before, I don’t remember.  I should have, since I’ve probably been to Knott’s Berry Farm a hundred times.  I grew up nearby.  Most of the time there’s a long line and I don’t like long lines.  This day it was free and clear.  We walked right in the very day we resolved to stand in line for it — At Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant.

Knott's Chicken 003

In one of several dining room areas — It’s fairly large inside and often full.

Knott's Chicken 012

I came away thinking it could be the Hot Buttermilk Biscuits they stand in line for — WOW, they are good!  They’re warm and something special.  And I’m not one to get excited about Biscuits.

Knott's Chicken 005

Soup and Salad is served with all Chicken meals — Mrs. Knott’s Famous Fried Chicken for us.

Knott's Chicken 008

It also comes with the choice of Cabbage seasoned with Ham or Sweet Kernel Corn.

Knott's Chicken 022

Though the Cabbage with Ham looks basic, it’s flavorful and rich — I’d get it again too.

Knott's Chicken 027

We split a meal, like others often do, we’re told — It’s a lot of food for one.

Knott's Chicken 016

Prices have changed in 70+ years — Today all is $16.99, and the same was only $0.85 in 1940.

Knott's Chicken 030

We upgraded to all White Meat — It’s $3.59 more, perhaps $0.15 back in the day?!

Knott's Chicken 020

We like the STAR with longevity too — Fried Chicken.  Okay, I’ll stand in line for all.

Knott's Chicken 015

Shouldn’t they be offering Knott’s Jellies, Jams and Preserves?!  What’s up with the Smucker’s?

Z’Tejas Chili Fest ’13 Benefits The Blind Children’s Learning Center.

August 30th, 2013 No comments

Z'Tejas 019

Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill at South Coast Plaza is launching its annual Chile Fest, an homage to the famous Hatch, New Mexico festival, Sept 3 – Sept 16 and $1 from each entrée off the special menu will benefit the Blind Children’s Learning Center.  Executive Chef Daniel Stevens says the idea behind Chile Fest is to celebrate the versatile role the fruit (its internal, edible seeds qualify it as a fruit rather than a vegetable) plays in the culinary world.  Each menu item on the Chile Fest menu including desserts and cocktails contain a variety of Chile Pepper.

Z'Tejas 003Z'Tejas 009Z'Tejas 021Z'Tejas 023

Excerpt from PR materials (above) — Photos are from a media preview we attended.

Z'Tejas 002

Nibbles of Tidbits (we) got to sample items from the Chili Fest Menu — Enlarge for better view.

Z'Tejas 004

Pictured from top down — The Herb Chili Glazed Mahi Mahi, my favorite of all we tasted and tried, two drinks on the Chili Fest Menu, the Skinny Smokin’ Margarita, my drink pick, and the Skinny Z’Smash.  The other drinks (on right) are two of Z’Tejas most popular… The Chambord Margarita and 6th Street Margarita.  We liked the Hatch Chili Onion Rings too.

Z'Tejas 011

The Adobo Steak Relleno and Tamarind Chicken Salad also had a punch of flavor and heat.

Z'Tejas 013

The Hatch Chili Coconut Flan is extra creamy and spicy — It’s so rich it needs the heat.

Z'Tejas 027

Dishes pictured below are found on Z’Tejas regular menu.

Z'Tejas 007

Corn Bread — It’s excellent and one of the best I’ve had.

Z'Tejas 016

Raw Ahi Chipotle Citrus Bites — I want them again.

Z'Tejas 012

Grilled Salmon and Vegetables — All was well prepared.

Z'Tejas 024

I like the addition of Pepitas to the Tableside Guacamole.

Z'Tejas 028

Did you know that Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill has the ‘largest outdoor patio’ at South Coast Plaza?  It does and I like it.  We’re always looking to have quality food and drinks on a patio.

Light & Healthy Califoriental Cuisine At Ho Sum Bistro: Combo Salad.

August 26th, 2013 No comments

Ho Sum Salad 006

“You’ve got to try the Combo Salad at Ho Sum Bistro” I’ve heard (and read) over and over.  It’s like… “You’ve got to see the baby” on Seinfeld — Well, I finally tried it aka saw the baby, and it’s not breathtaking.  In real world terms, it’s okay, better than the TV reference.

Ho Sum Salad 003

The Combo Salad is the Ho Sum Chicken Salad (Roasted and shredded Chicken Breast with Lettuce and Red Ginger Dressing) and the Sesame Seed Chicken Salad (Romaine Lettuce tossed with Sesame Seeds, Almonds, shredded Chicken and a Sesame Oil and Vinegar Dressing) combined.  It’s good, but next time I’d try a few Dim Sum dishes I saw on the menu.

Ho Sum Salad 011

It’s a lot of Salad.  Pictured is the 1/2 Combo Salad to go — Two can share it.

Doing Over-Hard Time In A Shell: Chicken Runs Off With The Fair.

August 13th, 2013 No comments

Funny Food 78

The OC Fair has left the county with a few FOOD stats to report — After the last pickle was wrapped in Bacon, Corn Dog deep-fried, piglet petted, carnival plush won and concertgoer rocked, 1,374,579 Fair-goers had heeded the OC Fair’s invitation to “Come & Get It” in 2013.

For the 2013 season, which ran from July 12-August 11, the OC Fair saw its second highest attendance. Plus the Pacific Amphitheatre saw its top-grossing summer concert series which included 11 sold-out concerts. Here are more fun facts about the 2013 OC Fair:

Food at the 2013 OC Fair:

  • Chicken Charlie used 7,500 gallons of vegetable oil to fry up 24,000 Bacon-Wrapped Pickles, 100,000 Deep-Fried Oreos, and other wild concoctions like 25,000 balls of his top-selling Deep-Fried Cookie Dough.
  • Biggy’s Meat Market sold nearly 2,000 Big Chics on a Stick and 4,500 The Big Ribs, and used 13,500 pounds of potatoes for orders of giant Curley Frys.
  • Bacon A-Fair used 20,000 pounds of bacon around turkey legs, inside chocolate, wrapped around cheesy bombs or sprinkled around chocolate peanut butter bananas.
  • Tasti Chips used 23.75 tons of potatoes and 690 gallons of cheese sauce.
  • Juicy’s sold more than 75,000 smoked turkey legs and used 300 gallons of ketchup and 250 gallons of mustard.

Hey Wait A Ribbit: Frog Legs Don’t Taste Like Chicken.

July 16th, 2013 No comments

Frogs Legs 010

Frog Legs — We finally tried them and don’t think they taste like Chicken.

Frogs Legs 002

Yes, they look like a pair of Frog Legs (below).  Not terribly appetizing, butt [if you know what I mean] we ate them — You could think you’re eating a Chicken Wing around some parts, but they really don’t ‘taste’ like Chicken, as told by people who have and haven’t tried them.

Frogs Legs 007

Frog’s Legs have more of an aquatic flavor and tough fish texture, with the look of an extended Chicken Wing — We would like them better if they had the texture of Chicken.  They’re not something we need to have again.  It’s officially checked off our crazy food list.

Frogs Legs 004

The flavor is hard to describe, perhaps Chicken is an easy way out — I get it now.

Experience The Speakeasy Sanctuary From Tedium: Pie Society.

June 17th, 2013 No comments

Pie Society 071

Pie Society is inconspicuously set within the back of Pitfire Artisan Pizza in Costa Mesa.

Pie Society 011

When I first read… Experience the Speakeasy Sanctuary from Tedium — I thought, what?

Pie Society 059

It’s Pie Society, a separate, connected, somewhat secret Bar, open Tues. – Sun., from 5p.m. to “Close” whenever that may be — Enter through Pitfire Artisan Pizza, if you can find how.

Pie Society 024

There’s also a back entrance to this speakeasy-type Bar — I love the idea.  It makes it cool.

Pie Society 065

And you can tell from its look, menu, drinks and related peeps — It is cool!

Pie Society 018

The Bar is framed with parts of the old Marie Callender’s Pie oven that once occupied the spot.

Pie Society 043

Pie Society has its own Signature Menu, with mostly different food than Pitfire Artisan Pizza.

Pie Society 041

Prior to its opening last week, media got to experience the reminiscence of Pie Society.

Pie Society 037

Signature Menu items are pictured throughout and ‘loosely described’ herein from top down.

Pie Society 033

Loosely, yes, since the Pie Society House Drinks and Iconic Selections positively detonate!

Pie Society 015

I tried a few and the El Primo with Sombra Mezcal, Home-made Lime Cordial, shaken with a Lime Wheel was a favorite.  I fell for Mezcal at Pie Society — Good thing I walked there.

Pie Society 035

Cheers to El Primo (above), the Pool Side (below) and the Hemingway Daiquiri — Ask for ’em.

Pie Society 039

I can’t name all pictured Pizzas, but Pie Society offers a few from Pitfire and a few unique to it.

Pie Society 030

It’s very dark inside which is part of the fun, but it makes it tough for photos.

Pie Society 069

Food media events bring out the best to capture ALL best.

Pie Society 057

Drinks Stars — I love the house-made (almost) everything… Juices, Syrups, Cordials, etc.

Pie Society 048

When there, sliding doors sometimes open up to a Pizza oven and additional seating (below).

Pie Society 072

The view back into the Pie Society Bar area (below).

Pie Society 053

See the exit sign in the Pitfire Artisan Pizza restaurant (below)?  It’s a way in to Pie Society.

Pie Society 076

Pizzas are exceptional on both sides of the building, at Pie Society and Pitfire Artisan Pizza.

Pie Society 070

We tried a Trio of Bread & Butter Pickles with Sriracha and Dill, Pastrami Peanuts with Smoked Sea Salt, and Smoked, Marinated Olives, and Superba Fried Chicken, Tater Tots with Chorizo Fondue, Crispy Dim Sum Shrimp, Cheeseburger Hot Pockets, Kimchi Deviled Eggs and Sweet & Sour Crispy Pork Belly.  The Chorizo Fondue and Pork Belly stood out as superstars to me.

Pie Society 013

I felt big love and blow its cover.  Another provides more information here.

Wild Goose Lands At The Little Knight Knighted Black Knight.

June 12th, 2013 No comments

Black Knight 011

We enjoyed stiff Cadillac Margaritas, Pizza and more at Black Knight Gastro Lounge (new and improved) at The Triangle — It once was on 17th Street as The Little Knight, a cool dive bar.

Black Knight 002

It has a more polished, clean look and a larger outdoor patio, something I usually hope for in a place.  Pizza is available inside and at times via the pass-through window adjacent to it.

Black Knight 003

The Cheese Platter was generous in size and unique with spicy, sweet and colorful Cheeses.

Black Knight 008

Our Salad (forgot which one) was good to share too — Check their website menu when it’s up.

The Triangle (View)

Upstairs view from The Triangle at Broadway and Newport Boulevard.

Black Knight

And the Wild Goose Tavern has landed at The Little Knight — It too looks spiffier.

Wild Goose

We look forward to trying it, especially the Grilled Romaine and Truffle Herb Fries.

Park Avenue 044

What a surprise — A Park Avenue Dinner for my birthday.  I’ve wanted to go there for so long.

Park Avenue 002

I’ve finally arrived!  I knew they had a garden, but WOW on the PAG — Park Avenue Garden.

Park Avenue 006

Cheers to this exceptional restaurant and to my hunny for ziz-zagging the streets to get us there on the sly.  Where are we going?  Park Avenue — It’s the best birthday dinner surprise!

Park Avenue 008

We started with Squash Blossoms filled with Goat Cheese and PAG Dried Oregano.

Park Avenue 052

Park Avenue seems to transcend decades — Its exterior is reminiscent of the 60’s or 70’s.

Park Avenue 016

It then travels through the food classics by way of modern, beautiful, sustainable gardens.

Park Avenue 025

It’s bigger than expected, she said — There’s a whole world going on inside Park Avenue.

Park Avenue 027

Our stuffed Squash Blossoms came from the PAG — A most impressive garden.

Park Avenue 035

Our night photography doesn’t do it justice — We hope to see all during the day sometime.

Park Avenue 041

It’s a romantic place with much to offer, including Il Garage, to be reported about next time.

Park Avenue 045

For Entrees we chose the Slow Cooked Pork Shank (top) and a Ling Cod Special (above).

Park Avenue 051

All was outstanding with a Happy Birthday Sundae — I wish… To eat here again soon.

Park Avenue 055

Chef/Managing Partner, David Slay walked throughout making sure all was better than good.

Park Avenue 031

We want to discover more.

California Wine Festival: Days Of Wine Tasting Near The Beach.

April 23rd, 2013 No comments

Wine Festival 006

Our first experience at the California Wine Festival — Wine glasses lined up for tasting.

Wine Festival 009

We grabbed a couple glasses and sought out the FOOD, because it’s how we roll.  Plenty of Wine was all around and available from noon to 4 — Best get some food in us to start.

Wine Festival 008

Ribs and Chicken Wings from The Point Restaurant & Bar in Dana Point.

Wine Festival 015

Messy with a Wine glass in hand, but the meat fell off the bone and both were flavorful.

Wine Festival 016

Tall tables were scattered throughout the event and came in handy when free.

Wine Festival 018

For a list of Participating Wineries, check with the California Wine Festival.

Wine Festival 052

Pasta from Gemmell’s Restaurant may not look like much in the photo, but it was amazing!

Wine Festival 024

I don’t know what it was, but if everything they make tastes as good, I’ve been missing out.

Wine Festival 048

A generous Taco Plate from Chelas Mexican Grill was another winner for me.

Wine Festival 053

Wine has the leading role at this event, so the heartier food options were appreciated.

Wine Festival 066

VIP Pavilion (above) — It didn’t look more exciting, but had more chairs and shade.

Wine Festival 058

Grilled Fish Tacos from Rubio’s.

Wine Festival 028

Sushi from Mahé.

Wine Festival 032

White Chocolate Dipped Strawberries from Celebrity Cruises.

Wine Festival 034

Cheers — We’re hoping to win a free Celebrity Cruise, if they haven’t picked the winner yet!?

Wine Festival 037

An Alcove similar to one on a Celebrity Cruise Ship — Our favorite Festival Sponsor.

Wine Festival 068

We had White Wine on this warm, sunny day — Missed out on Red and want to do it again.

Wine Festival 069

We frolicked and planked on Doheny State Beach afterwards and then went out for Sushi.

Wine Festival 082

One fine day.

It’s Now Built, But Will YOU Come To The Triangle?

Saddle Ranch

Do you know The Triangle (f/k/a Triangle Square) in Costa Mesa?  Yes, it’s called The Triangle now and it’s hoping to attract more guests than there ever was — I hope it does too, since the space has historically underperformed.  I’m not sure why, since parking isn’t that bad.

El Corazon

New Restaurants and Bars are open and due to open this Saturday, April 20th — The Saddle Ranch Chop House and El Corazon de Costa Mesa to name just two.  And I’m most excited to see a coming soon sign for Tavern Bowl.  Things seem to be pointing upward for The Triangle.

The Triangle

I liked the colors of Triangle Square better, but perhaps it’s one of the ways The Triangle is hoping to capture more attention — And one should pay attention, and GO, since it is built and looks to be tasty and fun there.  Be there or you’re a square.  Success is wished to all by us!
