Hoping Wings Cafe Lands At Fullerton Municipal Airport Soon.

April 19th, 2015 No comments

Fullerton Airport

Where is Wings Cafe?  I thought it was supposed to be open at Fullerton Municipal Airport by now?

Wings Cafe

Wings Cafe will someday occupy the space above, but it looks like it’s going to take longer than we hoped, as much still needs to be done to the lobby of the airport below, let alone Wings Cafe.

Airport Lobby

Above is the airport lobby as it looks today, and below is Wings Cafe, yikes.

Work to be done

For those who live nearby, it’s disappointing how long it’s taking.  What’s the hold up?  I hope government isn’t impeding progress, as it too often does — It’s not good for business nor the people.

Upcoming Events

Airport Day happens here in three weeks, May 9, 2015 and I’ll be happily shocked if all is complete.

Work to be done at Fullerton Airport

We hope for that and wish Wings Cafe much success, once it’s able to open — We’ll be two of its first customers, since we can walk to it.  And we’ll be at Airport Day to check for expedited progress.

Airport Day

Wings Cafe expects to open this spring, but Fullerton Municipal Airport’s website states “Opening Summer 2015,” thus it’s still unclear when it’ll be landing.  We’ll let you know when we know.  At a minimum, we hope the airport lobby construction is done in time for Airport Day.  It doesn’t make sense to host Airport Day in its current condition, the way it has looked for too long.  We’re coming for inspection that day.  Looking ahead optimistically, Wings Cafe menu may look like this one.

Dreaming Of A Pizza That No Longer Exists At The Getty Center.

Getty Pizza

I used to love it, but it’s all over now — It’s the Pizza at The Getty Center.

New Getty Pizza

It’s different than when I had it a couple years ago.  I wanted it to be the same memorable Pizza I last had there, but it’s now as pictured (above).  I didn’t try it, since it was the wafer thin crust that I liked best about the previous Getty Center Pizza — Boo hoo, but we still had the spectacular view.

Adventure and Food -- Calico Ghost Town

Oh boy, I’m actually going to Camp Blogaway this year.  It’s already paid for.  No turning back now. It happens in Southern California so I have to attend at least once.  I’ll learn a few things I’m sure, enjoy the outdoors, and probably have a lot of fun, but it’s a bit uneasy setting out for it alone. Overall, adventure combined with food, and the topic of food prevails — I’m looking forward to it.

Ki Sushi & Sake Bar At Village Circle On Beach: Dami No More.

Blue Fin Tuna Salad

I previously reported about Dami Sushi & Izakaya — We really liked the Sushi and people there.  It was located at the Village Circle off Beach and Malvern in Buena Park, but apparently the space is under new ownership.  Though the sign still reads Dami Sushi on the outside, it’s now Ki Sushi & Sake Bar.  Their temporary sign currently hangs below.  Of course we had to give them a try.

Halibut

We had Blue Fin Tuna, a listed special, as Sashimi (below) and seared in a well-flavored Salad (top).

Blue Fin Tuna

The rest was selected for us by Ki Sushi’s Chef Hak Sang, who named the Halibut Belly (second from top) after me — It’s also posted with #shelly on Instagram at www.Instagram.com/HakSushi.

Ki Sushi

We were surprised with the little nuggets below, tasty combos of Salmon, Crab and Spicy Tuna.

Sushi

And we much appreciated the creative Orange Dessert too — All was impressive.

Orange Surprise

It appears we have a new Sushi Bar to go to — It’s now called Ki Sushi & Sake Bar.

The Creamiest Ice Cream Is Made With Liquid Nitrogen At Creamistry.

December 7th, 2014 No comments

IMG_9701

Creamistry Ice Cream — Because Liquid Nitrogen is so cold, it causes the Milk particles to stay very small creating an ultra-smooth creamy texture, Creamistry reports, and after having it, I think it’s the creamiest Ice Cream I’ve ever had.  It is CREEEE-MEE!  Creamistry Ice cream is made using Liquid Nitrogen while you watch and wait.  Fresh ingredients are frozen fast.

IMG_9682

Chosen ingredients are frozen at 321 degrees turning all into a creamy goodness.

IMG_9692

Choose your SIZE, pick your BASE, and then choose your FLAVOR and TOPPINGS.

IMG_9684IMG_9685IMG_9694IMG_9686

I chose the PREMIUM BASE, Strawberry flavor with Roasted Almonds for a topping.

IMG_9691

The Liquid Nitrogen fogs up the place like dry ice — It’s fun to watch, though a little hard to see.

IMG_9681

I met a family in line who traveled from San Clemente to Irvine just to get Ice Cream here.

IMG_9683

I liked it more than I expected and now find myself craving its creamy texture and want to try other flavors.  Creamistry offers a multitude of flavors and toppings creating a slight dilemma when choosing.  I must go back to try more.  It can take some time getting through the line when it’s long and it’s not cheap, but a little goes a long way.  It’s ultra-rich, creamy and good.

IMG_9678

I wanted to ask more questions about the process and see all clearly from start to finish, but it was a busy day at Creamistry in Irvine.  It’s already loved by others, I’ve seen and heard, and now I like it too.  It’s not just another Ice Cream.  It’s fun to experience and different to taste.

Two Ingredient Pizza Dough: Self Rising Flour & Plain Greek Yogurt.

Two Ingredient Pizza Crust 019

Did you know that you can make a Pizza Dough using only two ingredients?  You can.

Two Ingredient Pizza Crust 002

Two Ingredient Pizza Dough is made with Self Rising Flour and Plain Greek Yogurt.  I heard about it and had to try it.  And it’s true, it works with (1 ½ Cups of Self Rising Flour & 1 Cup of Plain Greek Yogurt).  I simply combined the two, then kneaded both into Dough.

Two Ingredient Pizza Crust 007

It didn’t take much time or effort to convert into a blank Pizza canvas.

Two Ingredient Pizza Crust 011

I made a basic Pepperoni & Pineapple Pizza, with a Pineapple homegrown by my husband, I might add.  I also added Pizza Sauce, Parmesan and Mozzarella Cheese — Other Recipes.

Two Ingredient Pizza Crust 024

The Pizza was baked in a preheated 450° oven for 12 minutes and all turned out well, though the flavor of the Pizza Crust is a little bland and would taste better as a Three Ingredient Pizza Dough with the addition of a little Salt — That’s what I’ll make next time.

Best Bar & Restaurant In San Juan Puerto Rico: La Factoria & El Jibarito.

Cruise 078

It’s been a long time coming, but it can’t go unreported — We have a favorite Bar and Restaurant in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  We traveled there in February during our honeymoon and fell in love with La Factoria, a Bar in San Juan, Puerto Rico, pictured above and below.

Cruise 080

Cheers to La Factoria‘s artsy style and unique, gourmet cocktails.

Purto Rico - The Factory

The cocktails are thoughtfully made by scratch and hand.

There are different rooms with different vibes, and some go off later than others.

The Factory in Puerto Rico

It was serene during our visit, thus we explored its cool spaces.  Look close — We’re in the mirror below with one of the hip guys running the place.  Our photos turned out magical.

After La Factoria for a drink (all photos above), we went to Restaurant El Jibarito (all photos below) for dinner.  It was recommended by the locals, thus we went and enjoyed our meals.

There we were and wish we were now at El Jibarito in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

It’s casual and comfortable inside and the prices are good.

El Jibarito Menu

Cheers to us at El Jibarito — A few others there were celebrating birthdays.

Cheers in Puerto Rico

Much is served in Sauce and/or Gravy with Plantains — I like that.

I don’t recall our exact dishes, but the meat in both was very tender.

We were happy to have found El Jibarito too.

The Catch Of The Month Is Yellowtail: Fruits Of ‘The San Diego’ Labor.

Yellowtail Smoked Fish

My husband, Matt recently went on a 3/4 day sport fishing vessel called The San Diego and caught some nice-sized Yellowtail.  He brought home approximately twenty pounds of fillets and one whole Yellowtail for smoking.  It was Operation Yellowtail at our house.  We prepared several dishes immediately, gave a few fillets to neighbors and co-workers and froze the rest.

Matt's Yellowtail

The San Diego is known as one of the best sport fishing vessels in San Diego and Matt agrees. He loves fishing and even holds a state record for catching the largest California Sheephead Fish at 30lbs., 8oz., from his kayak in 2009.  It was quite impressive, like the Yellowtail above.

Yellowtail 004

As shown, we smoked the whole Yellowtail for 4 1/2 hours and it turned out amazing.

Yellowtail SmokerSmoking YellowtailSmoked Yellowtail on SmokerYellowtail Accompaniments

It was tender and flaky with the perfect amount of smoke flavor.

Eating Smoked Yellowtail

Smoked Yellowtail is a real treat with Cocktail Sauce, Lemon Caper Dill Sauce, Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Cream Cheese, Red Onions, Capers, Pickles, Crackers, Red Bell Peppers and Pickles.

Smoked Yellowtail and Accompaniments

On the first day, I made Ceviche and Poke with a few of the Yellowtail fillets.

Ceviche and Poke

The Ceviche was simply made with Red Onions, Red Bell Peppers, Jalapenos, Cilantro, Lime and Lemon Juice — The Yellowtail marinated quickly and was ready to eat in 15 minutes.

Yellowtail Ceviche

Another batch of chopped Yellowtail was mixed with Soy Sauce, Ponzu Sauce, grated Ginger and Green Onions to make Poke, which was pretty much ready to eat immediately too.

Yellowtail Poke

We grilled Yellowtail fillets and ate ’em with a Mango Salsa made with fresh cut Mango, Red Bell Peppers, Red Onions, Jalapenos, Cilantro and Lime Juice — It was all so fresh tasting.

Yellowtail with Mango Salsa

We fried Yellowtail fillets to have with leftover Lemon Caper Dill and Cocktail Sauce.

Fried Yellowtail

Yellowtail fared well with all preparations — Raw (Hamachi), rare, smoked, grilled and fried.

Yellowtail Fried with Sauce

The rest was frozen to later prepare differently — Perhaps bake, stew and/or broil, etc.

Yellowtail Frozen

Preparation of the frozen Yellowtail fillets shall be posted as updates below.

What Are The Best Things To Eat At Disneyland, I Asked My Phone.

October 22nd, 2014 No comments

Disneyland 015

What are the best foods to eat at Disneyland, I asked my semi-smart phone.  We were going to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure and wanted something different than an average Burger and Fries.  I hadn’t been to either park in 10 years.  After reviewing the search results, I chose two food dishes that were included on several lists — One at Disneyland and the other at Disney California Adventure, two places I’ve never known and probably wouldn’t have found.  Each sounded appealing.  We started with the Carthay Signature Fried Biscuits with Apricot Honey Butter at Carthay Circle Restaurant at Disney California Adventure.

Disneyland 017

Carthay Circle Restaurant is fancier than expected, but we sought to have the best food at Disneyland.  We went there to try the Carthay Signature Fried Biscuits that are described as amazing and to-die-for.  Stuffed with White Cheddar, Bacon and Jalapenos they sound good.

Disneyland 010

They don’t look like much on the outside, then surprise with a gooey middle.  With the Apricot Honey Butter, it’s interesting and different — I like its concentrated flavor and it’s not bad on the Biscuits, but we really didn’t fall in love with them.  They’re good, not great and expensive for its small size and amount.  Several Starters looked better to us and more filling.

Disneyland 020

My husband set out to photo bomb Goofy, but wasn’t obvious enough — At Disneyland.

Disneyland 003

Across the square from Disney California Adventure, we sought to have the Lobster Roll at the Harbour Galley Restaurant in Critter Country at Disneyland.  It too appears to be a Disneyland favorite.  It’s less fancy than Carthay Circle with only a few takeout windows.

Disneyland 023

I wasn’t able to take a good photo of the Lobster Roll, but the Clam Chowder in a Bread Bowl looked, tasted and photographed well.  It too is well-liked by bloggers and papers.

Disneyland 026

The Lobster Roll was great, with a good amount of Lobster and nice lemony flavor.

Disneyland 030

We’d have the Lobster Roll again for $14.99, but not the Carthay Signature Fried Biscuits for $12.00.  Next visit we’ll try other Disneyland favorites discovered on my phone.  Thank you!

Crispy Artichoke Hearts At El Galleon Restaurant: Get Something Else.

September 9th, 2014 No comments

Fried Artichoke Hearts

Do you see the pool of Garlic Butter under the Crispy Artichoke Hearts (above)?  We had the same Hot Appetizer at El Galleon Restaurant in Avalon on Catalina Island, except our pool of Garlic Butter was twice as deep.  Our formerly Crispy Artichoke Hearts could high dive into it.  We were surprised to see them served that way.  Why would El Galleon fry them to a crispy, golden brown only to place them essentially in Oil again?  It’s simply a bad idea.  The Garlic Butter should be served on the side to preserve crispiness.  Don’t you think so?  And they’re too expensive at $11.95.  We’ll get something else next time.  El Galleon is otherwise a fun place with Live Karaoke and countless other dishes and specialty drinks to choose from.

Matt and Shelly Freis in Catalina

We LOVE spending time on Catalina Island — See our previous Blue Water Grill report.

Lay’s Do Us A Flavor Chip Contest Take Two: We Pick Only One.

August 14th, 2014 No comments

Lay's Chip Contest II

I submitted a Potato Chip flavor idea in Lay’s latest Do Us A Flavor – Choose Your Chip Contest, but never heard back.  It appears they didn’t choose my flavor idea… Steakhouse Bloody Mary Kettle Cooked Chips, which would have to be better than Cappuccino, don’t you think?  I was surprised to see and taste that option, but do appreciate its uniqueness.

Lay's Chip Contest 002

With respect to Lay’s actual picks (above), I was most excited about the Wasabi Ginger and Mango Salsa, thought the Cheddar Bacon Mac & Cheese to be basic, and the Cappuccino to be odd.  After tasting all, I’d only be able to eat an entire bag of one, the Cheddar Bacon Mac & Cheese.  I’m not sure how I’m able to taste Macaroni in a Potato Chip, but somehow can.  They’re pretty good.  Overall, we could only eat a couple Cappuccino Chips before they got sickening, a few more of the Wasabi Ginger Chips before being overpowered by their flavor, and the Mango Salsa Chips tasted like my favorite Fruit Lollipop at Disneyland, a flavor not sought in a Chip.  We say #SaveBaconMac, if any.  Vote for your favorite — Previous winners.

The Hobbit Restaurant In Orange May Serve Your Best Meal Ever.

The Hobbit Lamb

Have you ever been to The Hobbit?  It’s a restaurant and unique dining experience in Orange that has nothing to do with the novel, movie or Hobbit character, whew — At least I didn’t see any visual cues of it, though didn’t ask the origin of its name.  Regardless, it’s simply a great place to possibly have the best meal of your life, if you have a few hours to spare.

Shelly Freis at The Hobbit

After years of hoping to dine at The Hobbit, my husband took me for my birthday, another reason why I married him this year.  Dining here could be an annual occasion, he may be afraid to learn, as it’s not inexpensive, but worth the time and money — It’s a good value, I think.

The Hobbit Patio The Hobbit Entrance The Hobbit Dining Room

We’ve arrived — Who and what’s behind the door?  Looks like a speakeasy slot, I like it.

Thee Hobbit Bar

We started with a Glass of Wine and seat in the Bar (above) — The Hobbit experience starts with an optional drink in the Bar, or in one of the other sitting areas inside or outside.

Upstairs Hobbit Bar  The Hobbit - Me in Bar Mirror  Cheers at The Hobbit

After orientation of the Bar and various rooms within an old converted house, all head downstairs to the Wine Cellar for Champagne & Hors d’ Oeuvres (included in a fixed price).

The Hobbit Wine Cellar Stairs

You may eat and enjoy as many Hors d’ Oeuvres and drink as much Champagne as you like.

The Hobbit Hors d' Oeuvres

The photos don’t do all justice – Each Hors d’ Oeuvre was exceptional, delicious and top notch.

Beef Satay  The Hobbit App  At The Hobbit

Busy trying everything while I could (about ten dishes over and over again), I didn’t take notes — Amongst other dishes, they offered a smooth Liver Pâté, Steak Tartare, Beef Saté, Caviar, etc.  I’m personally not a big Caviar fan, but appreciate their generosity.

The Hobbit Caviar

I loved The Hobbit’s Steak Tartare — It was perfectly chilled and fresh.

Wine Cellar

If you like, while in the Wine Cellar, select a bottle of Wine to have with dinner.

The Hobbit - Our Dinner Table

The experience continues upstairs, from the Wine Cellar at a privately assigned table.

View from Dinner Table

It’s romantic too.

The Hobbit Dinner Roll

Even the Bread Roll was extra special, with a lot Herbs.

The Hobbit - Menu of the Day

The Hobbit meals come with an ever-changing menu/program, with intermission and all.

The Hobbit Salad before Intermission

Your menu will most likely be different, but ours included Seared Loin of Lamb with Organic Red Quinoa and a Tart Cherry Reduction (top photo), Butter Lettuce with Roquefort Dressing and Port Poached Pear (directly above), and Wild Mushroom Stuffed Filet Mignon (below).

Wild Mushroom Stuffed Filet

Almond Cake, Apricot Ice Cream and a Chocolate Mascarpone Mousse (below).

The Hobbit Chefs in the Kitchen

During intermission that’s followed by Sorbet and the main entrée, we visited the kitchen and enjoyed our Wine on the outdoor patio, while hoping to make room for more food.

Matt & Me at The Hobbit

We toast to the Chefs and owners of The Hobbit — We LOVED our meal and time there.

Cheers to going back to The Hobbit someday...

Pieology Pizzeria: The Study Of ‘K’ustom Pizza At One Fair Price.

June 21st, 2014 No comments

Father's Day 014

At Pieology Pizzeria, I can finally get all the Pizza toppings I want without worrying about cost.  I usually limit Pizza toppings to 3 max, otherwise it gets expensive.  Here it makes sense to have more.  For one price — $7.95 — You can have them all if you want.  And it’s fast too.

Pieology

It’s easy — Just go through the assembly line and tell them what you want.

Custom Pizza

What kind of Sauce?  What kind of Cheese?  1/2 and 1/2?  Simple?  Complex?

Kustom - Custom Pizza

It’s all up to you.  Want more Pepperoni than generally allotted?  You can have it — I like that!

Cheese Options

To simplify, you can also choose one of Pieology’s 7 Specialty Pizzas from $6.45 – $7.95.

Pieology Pizza Oven

It’s a nice sized Pizza with a perfectly crisp, thin crust, for one or two people.

Father's Day 017

A friend of mine works at a movie theater near a Pieology Pizzeria and says many sneak Pieology Pizzas into the theater.  I’m not sure how, but it’s done.  And he says… it’s the most coveted leftover by those cleaning theaters — Some like it so much, they’ll eat a stranger’s last slices if they’re left in the theater.  Yikes!  I surely wouldn’t do that (hahaha), but it goes to show how good it must be, or theater employees need to eat before going to work.

Tana, Abyssinia & Merhaba: Ethiopian Restaurant Reviews.

June 9th, 2014 No comments

Ethiopian Food

Have you ever tried Ethiopian food?  I hadn’t until recently.  Do you know anything about it?  I just moved to Fullerton near several Ethiopian restaurants.  Curious about them, I researched ‘local Ethiopian food’ to learn which is best.  Since those closest (Tana, Abyssinia & Merhaba) had good reviews on Yelp, I became less clear where to go, thus I tried and compared them all myself, along with my adventurous husband – One Vegetarian Combination Plate at a time, served on Injera, a sourdough-risen flatbread with a slightly spongy texture.

Tana - Ethiopian

We started our Local Ethiopian Food Tour’ at Tana Ethiopian Restaurant (above) on La Palma Avenue in Anaheim.  It’s located in a small strip mall and doesn’t look like much on the outside, but inside it’s relaxed and smells like something good is cooking.  Don’t be timid to go inside, everyone’s nice — A common theme of all three.  There’s a better world inside each.

Ethiopian 017

We had a Vegetarian Combination Plate at each restaurant — It’s a varied combination of Shiro Wot, Kik Alicha, Gommen, Yemiser Wot, Sinegkarya, Lentil Stew, Potato & Carrot Wot, etc., which generally translates into Cabbage, Spinach, Potatoes, Carrots, Lentils, Split Peas, Green Beans and/or Chard cooked with Onions, Garlic, Ginger, Chili Powder, Turmeric and other spices.  A Wot is a thick stew of different vegetarian and non-vegetarian types.

Tana - Ethiopian Food

Inside Tana (above) — Toasting with African Beer.  Beer & Wine is served at all three.

African Beer

No utensils are provided — You eat with your hands using the Injera.  It appears most meals are served on it and more is provided on the side.  We didn’t take lessons on how to eat.  We just tore-off a piece of Injera, pinched a little Wot and ate it.  It worked well and made us full.

Ethiopian Style

The Injera can be quite filling — Towards the end, I wanted a fork to eat less of it.

Ethiopian 031

Abyssinia Ethiopian Cuisine (below) is the second Ethiopian restaurant we tried in Anaheim, California — It’s located off West Lincoln Avenue and it too is unfancy on the outside and welcoming inside.  Its Vegetarian Combination Plate also offered ten unique dishes.

Abyssinia - Ethiopian

Both Vegetarian Combination Plates thus far had similar dishes with a Salad.

Ethiopian 039

Except for the Salad, most dishes are served warm, though above had additional cold dishes.

Ethiopian 034

Inside Abyssinia Ethiopian Cuisine (above) — Toasting with Honey Wine & African Beer.

Ethiopian Food 033

We also tried their Doro Wot aka Doro Wat – A Spicy Chicken Stew made with Chicken Legs and Hard Boiled Eggs.  The Sauce was flavorful and the Chicken was tender, but there wasn’t enough of it — Abyssinia’s Vegetarian Combo was more filling than their Doro Wot.

Ethiopian 035

And finally, we tried Merhaba East African Restaurant (below), last on this tour, but certainly not least.  Consistent with the others, its exterior isn’t pretty, especially sandwiched between an Emergency Walk-In Center and a Thrift Store, but there’s a friendly escape inside.

Merhaba - Ethiopian Food

As shown, Merhaba’s Vegetarian Combination Plate (below) has six dishes and no Salad.  It includes fewer dishes than Tana’s and Abyssinia’s Combos, but we both liked Merhaba’s plate the best.  Each dish had an abundance of flavor.  It’s quality, not quantity at Merhaba.

Ethiopian Food 012

It’s funny… I was least excited to go to Merhaba, mostly because it has less of a presence online, but it may now be my first pick.  It’s similarly comfortable inside too (below).

Ethiopian Food 002

Cheers to Merhaba with a different African Beer.

Ethiopian Food 003

Next time we’ll try their special Coffee (below), which is served after a ceremonial process.

Ethiopian

As reported, Tana Ethiopian Restaurant, Abyssinia Ethiopian Cuisine and Merhaba East African Restaurant are indeed good and worth a visit and more.  All should definitely try Ethiopian food.  Contrary to what some think, Ethiopian food is filling and appetizing.

What The Happiest Place On Earth Is Going On?

Downtown Disney Pizza

Have you tried Naples Ristorante E Pizzeria in the Downtown Disney District?

Naples Pizza

If not, you may want to skip it — Not because it’s bad, but because it’s ridiculously priced.

Naples Patio - Pizza

Disney related prices are high indeed and going up, as recently reported.

Downtown Disney - Olive Oil

After watching a Food Network Special on Pizzas, I had been craving a great one — Naples Ristorante E Pizzeria was the first Pizzeria we stumbled on after the show.  It didn’t satisfy, mostly because I have an aversion to being gouged.  Our “Individual” Pizza (pictured) was $19 and the next size up is $32.  We got the Finocchiona Pizza, which is made with Salami, sautéed Onions, Tomato and Mozzarella.  Again, it wasn’t bad, but I know there’s better.

Naples Pizza - Downtown Disney

We appreciate taste and value in a Pizza — It makes us happier on earth.

Alligator At World Famous Islamorada Fish Company Restaurant.

Dami Sushi 006

The World Famous Islamorada Fish Company Restaurant is attached to Bass Pro Shops.

Bass Pro Shop Restaurant

It’s where I tried Alligator for the first time — It’s on their menu, when it’s in season.

Alligator

Alligator (pictured at top and above) is a bit tough — Its texture reminds me of Frogs Legs.

Bass Pro Shop Aquarium

I had to try Alligator at least once — Done.  It doesn’t taste like Chicken, as some say.

Catfish Po Boy

Other than that, we’d go back to Islamorada Fish Company just for its gorgeous aquarium.

Cobb Salad

And the pictured Catfish Po Boy and Cobb Salad — Both were great with a giant Beer.

Dami Sushi 015

We LOVE Bass Pro Shops, which is more of an amusement park or museum than a store.

Fudge Shop

I’m not sure about all Bass Pro Shops, but Rancho Cucamonga has its own Fudge Shop too.

Attention Chili’s: Please Put The Drink Prices On Your Menu.

Chilis 036

Where are the prices?  I can’t think of one good reason (for the consumer) not to have drink prices on a menu.  Chili’s Restaurant doesn’t put drink prices on its menu.  Drinks can be expensive.  I don’t want to ask… How much is this Margarita, or that one, or how about that Glass of Wine, etc.  It’s a little uncomfortable, but I don’t want a big surprise on the bill, thus I’m less apt to order a drink at Chili’s, especially a Specialty Margarita.  Do you feel the same?

Chilis 043

On a positive note, I’ll always order their Chips — Chili’s Chips are the best.

Since summer 2011, No Kid Hungry efforts to expand access to summer meals and school breakfast have helped connect kids to more than 34 million additional meals. The No Kid Hungry campaign is replicating that success around the country by working collaboratively with its partners to feed millions of American children.  In 2013, Taste of the Nation Laguna Beach raised over $200,000 which helps connect children in need with up to 2 million meals.

One hundred percent of ticket proceeds from Taste of the Nation Laguna Beach benefit the No Kid Hungry campaign, thanks to generous support from National Presenting Sponsor Sysco, National Sponsors American Express and Food Network, and local sponsors Montage Laguna Beach, Mangia Inc., Celebrity Cruises, Southern CA Gas Company, Epstein Becker Green, Orange County Restaurant Association, Congenial Spirits, Aqua Panna, Bread Artisan Bakery Inc. and Orange Coast Magazine. Local beneficiaries include Second Harvest Orange County Food Bank, Community Action Partnership of OC, Father Serra’s Food Pantry (@Mission San Juan Capistrano).

We got to try her Chiang Mai Chicken in Lettuce Wraps with Lime Ginger Dipping Sauce, Pineapple Fried Rice, Panaeng Curry Meatballs and Coconut Cake with Mango Sauce.

Katie Chin 021

All were flavorful and relatively easy to make.

After our class, I made the Pineapple Fried Rice, Shrimp Coconut Soup (last photo) and the Chiang Mai Chicken in Lettuce Wraps and all turned out fantastic — Thai food is so tasty.

Also, thanks to Greg of the OC Beer Blog, who brought Beer to compliment the food.

Though I don’t have the specifics, he did a great job — His Beer selections paired well with all.

Katie’s Coconut Cake with Mango Sauce is on my “To Make List.”
