This Office Bake Sale raised $570 in a little over an hour — Not a bad wage. All proceeds of the sale will be going to local charities. Bake Sales are an excellent way to raise money. It’s a WIN-WIN. And they are extra yummy if you have good Bakers in your office.
This post includes just a sampling of the Baked Goods — In addition to what is shown HERE, there were several Pies, White Chocolate Fudge, Biscotti, Chocolate Dipped Rice Krispie Treats, Homemade Shortbread Cookies, Pumpkin Bars, Banana Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting, Chocolate Dipped Oreo Cookies and much more.
My small contribution was this Orange Bundt Cake with an Orange Glaze (below). It’s a White Cake doctored up with Orange Juice, Orange Peel and Powdered Sugar. It was designated to sell whole for $5 — I hope its purchaser liked it. I liked what I bought.

Could you eat on $7 a Day for a Week? That’s Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, and there’s no accepting free food, no eating what you already have, and the meals should be somewhat healthy. Many will be doing that April 20-24, 2009 during the United Way’s Hunger Action Week.
What an interesting challenge — I would probably learn a lot. If I didn’t already have longstanding lunch and dinner plans next week, I’d do it too. It appears $7 is the maximum food stamp benefit for an individual. I’ll make myself take the challenge another week or the economy may force it upon me. Until then, I’ll be following the food blog reports, especially the posts by Savory Sweet Life.

A couple of cool peeps I know are doing something great for Valentine’s Day. Instead of spending money on jewelry or an expensive dinner out, Betty and Mike Carroll of Laguna Niguel are making a donation to The Village of Hope, which helps homeless families transition into permanent shelter and sustainable jobs. It’s so important for the children.
In addition to The Village of Hope monetary donation Betty and Mike plan to make each Valentine’s Day, they’ll pack and take a Box of Love filled with non-perishable FOOD items to the Village of Hope in Tustin, where many families are temporarily living. The donations are much needed and appreciated. What a wonderful way to spread Valentine’s Day love — And food. How about doing the same?

Share Our Strength’s goal is to END childhood hunger in America. That’s important! Children shouldn’t have to live hungry. When you’re hungry it’s hard to concentrate on anything else. SOS raises money to feed ALL of America’s children.
One GREAT way to donate to Share Our Strength is to attend one of the “A Tasteful Pursuit” dinners, which will be taking place in a different city each month throughout the year. Save up and buy a ticket. It’s an evening with some of the country’s TOP CHEFS, amazing cuisine, and the opportunity to bid on fabulous auction items. It’s a win-win.
Foodbuzz is sending (1 – 2) Featured Publisher Correspondents to report about each city. I’ve submitted a proposal to (hopefully) be one of them. Buzz me up on the bottom link below. Also linked is Share Our Strength’s website and more about the A Tasteful Pursuit events taking place between January – November 2009.

I’ve sometimes got too much food that I’d love to share with a fixed income senior citizen — One who could use and appreciate some adventurous extra food from time to time. If you know a senior who lives in Costa Mesa, please send an E-Mail to services@ineedtext.com. I’ll have my bodyguard check him/her out and then we’ll get the food rolling. 🙂
Thank you.
